SFAI National Cup u16 Boys Round 3 North-end Wexford 3-1 Peake Villa
Scorer: Dillon Maher (1)
Our 16's travelled to Wexford for this 3rd round tie. Conditions for the game were blustery and Villa were playing with the breeze in the first half which did not suit them as a lot of passes were been over hit in the final third. They were comfortable for the first twenty minutes but went one down against the run of play in the 26th minute. Villa's best chance came from a corner whipped in by Jack Kelly that curled in the wind and hit the upright. The home side made it 2-0 when the ball was not dealt with in our box. Half-time 2-0 to North-End.
The second half was a much better performance from Villa and they were much more comfortable playing against the wind passing the ball much more fluently. Dillon Maher came close in the 50th minute when he met a cross from Jack Kelly and his header hit the underside of the crossbar and came out. Alejandro Garcia came close shortly after breaking through the defense but his shot was saved by the home keeper. North End went 3-0 ahead when Villa were doing all the pressing. Paddy Creedon was unlucky not to get us on the scoresheet when his shot was well saved. Villa did get one back with five minutes to go when Dillon Maher headed in from a Garcia cross but it was too late with the damage done in the first half. It was a big ask been away for the third time in the competition but the lads showed that they were a good match for a good North-End side. Man of the match for Villa was James Armstrong. Best of luck to North-End in the rest of the competition.

Losing the toss and facing a gale coming straight into their faces Villa were put under pressure from the first minute against a determined St Michaels team. Villa and St. Michael's both had chances. The deadline was broken halfway through the first half by Villa after a good move which led to a throw being conceded by Michaels. Villa were switched on from the throw and great movement by Jamie and Artem led to a 1-2 pass which Artem finished in the bottom corner 1-0 at half time.
Second half with the wind at their backs saw Villa press on for a second and what a second. Great pass from John Fitzgerald found Artem on the wing who crossed for Jamie to volley into the top corner making it 2-0. Villa controlled the game as the wind died and failed to make further chances count. Michaels grew into the half and a break lead to a penalty being awarded for a foul. Fortunately for Villa the spot kick was sent over the bar. From the resulting goal kick Finn picked up the ball and ran into the box where his shot was saved but he scored from the rebound. Other chances came but we're not finished.
The game finished at 3-0 with a good performance from both teams. Special mention for the referee who had a great game and was excellent with the players.
