FAI Youth Cup 2nd Round Youths lost 1-2 Cahir Park
Scorer: Ronan McGuire (1)
Villa youths travelled to rivals Cahir on a very wet day for a tough test, both sides were trying to play football despite the difficult underfoot conditions and Cahir slightly edged the opening exchanges. Villa grew into the game and on 20mins Jack Casey from a corner that broke to him and he cleverly beat the Cahir full back and found Ronan McGuire in the box, who powered home a header to give Villa the lead. Villa grew in confidence and an identical play with great work from Jack Casey again this time found Kevin Patan who headed across the keeper into the net, but to the bemusement of everybody was judged to be offside. The rest of the half saw chances either end with Cahir hitting the crossbar. Half time Cahir 0-1 Villa.
The second half was again an even affair with lots of chances either end but just when Villa looked like they had done enough to get through the tie, with late pressure from Cahir who applied a ball into the box and the Cahir striker was first to react, firing home into the bottom corner in the last minute. Almost straight from the restart a lapse of concentration in midfield saw the Cahir midfielder in space who found their striker, who applied the killer blow, finishing clinically to give Cahir the lead.
Villa regrouped and threw everything at Cahir in the remaining injury time but could not get the equaliser. Full time Cahir 2 -1 villa. Our lads can hold their heads held high after a gutsy honest team performance, playing some great football, but it just was one of them days where there was nothing between the two teams. It was just a cruel way to exit such a big competition, but they still are chasing silverware on 2 more fronts.
u16A Boys drew 5-5 Cahir Park
Scorers: Alejandro Garcia Dias (2), Liam McCormack (1), Guillermo Mitan (1), Cathal McElgunn (1)
Our 16's entertained Cahir in the league Saturday morning and what a game it was with 10 goals scored. Villa were missing six U16 players for this game so had to call on eight U15's to make up the squad. Villa had the worst of starts conceding four goals in the first 20 minutes and it looked like it was game over but to the boy's credit they settled into the game after this and slowly started creating chances and came close on 3 occasions before half-time, but the Cahir goalie was in fine form making some good saves. Villa did get one before the half when Liam McCormack scored to make it 4-1 at the break.
It was all Villa in the second half and they made it 4-2 when Cathal Mcelgunn chipped the goalie which gave the boy's belief to push on. Villa keeper Stephen Donovan got injured with 30 minutes to go in what was a nasty clash and we wish Stephen a speedy recovery. Lorcan Cummins replaced Stephen in the Villa goal. Villa made it 4-3 when Guillermo Mitan scored. Alejandro Garcia Dias scored from a brilliant solo effort going past 4 defenders and slotting it into the bottom corner to make it 4-4. It looked like there would only be one winner now but with 10 minutes to go Cahir got a corner and scored to make it 5-4 from a header at the back post. The boys to their credit never gave up and again Dias broke through and was brought down in the box for a Penalty, which he took himself and scored to make it 5-5. Villa did well to come back from 4 down but amazingly will be disappointed to not take all 3 points having had balls cleared off the line and hitting the crossbar. Great attitude throughout the whole squad though, when they could have easily dropped the heads when 4 down. Full time score 5-5 with Alejandro Garcia Dias man of the match for Villa.
u14A Boys match postponed St. Michael's unplayable
u14B Boys drew 1-1 Moyglass United
Scorer: Dylan Nevin
A hard-fought encounter played on a very wet and mucky Moyglass pitch, saw both sides dig deep to to share the spoils. It was all Villa in the first half, but conditions made it impossible to have shots of any significance to try and open the scoring.
The second half began much the same with Villa pushing hard to score only to be caught by a sucker punch and a breakaway goal for Moyglass. Villa kicked on again and won a penalty which Dylan Nevin tucked home to give them the goal their performance deserved. Well done to all concerned on a brave and battling display.
u12A Boys won 5-1 Shanbally United
Scorers: Artem Izkho (2), Finn Jones (2), Keith Loughnane (1)
Villa kept up their good recent form by beating a hard working Shanbally side. Villa stated quickly with Finn Jones scoring after just 1 min, after being put through on goal. Villa doubled their lead through a smart finish across the keeper by Artem Izkho. Pressure continued to be applied and a 3rd came from a lovely finish into the bottom corner by Keith Loughnane.
After the break Villa were caught cold by a quick attack which ended with a close-range finish by the Shanbally forward. Villa responded immediately with a fourth goal scored by Artem from a great lay off by Eamonn. Several other chances came with either great saves or last-ditch tackles but Villa weren't to be denied and Finn finished off his second by rounding the keeper.
A quality squad performance from all players and a special mention to Eamonn for his amazing work rate and who was so unlucky not to score.
u12B Boys lost 0-2 Mullinahone B
A great display from both teams, in which Mullinahone edged with a goal in each half. Villa started slowly but eventually worked themselves into the game. Both sides had chances in the first half. Colm Hickey in goals made some super saves for Villa, but Mullinahone went in one nil up at half time.
The second half was a different game with Villa having the majority of the ball and created some good scoring opportunities, hitting the crossbar and the Mullinahone keeper made some great saves. Mullinahone grabbed a second goal on the break with Villa pushing men forward. Good battling performance from the whole team and a tough game to lose.
The boys u10 squads travelled to Clonmel Celtic, the u10A Boys won against Clonmel Celtic A with a very good performance and the u10B Boys drew with the Clonmel Celtic B after a very tight exciting match.
