Sunday 6th January

TSDL Premier League

Peake Villa Junior A 3-0 Bansha Celtic
Scorers: Pippy Carroll (60 Mins) Alan Ryan (65 Mins) Kieran Hennessy (80 Mins)

This was our Junior A team's first game back after the Christmas break. Villa got off to a good start and were unlucky not to be in front in the first five minutes when Frank McKevitt hit the crossbar twice in a minute. Pippy Carroll again hit the crossbar in the 15th minute with a fine strike. Sean Butler put in a great cross in the 37th minute that was met by McKevitt but his strike was well saved by Callum Fanning in the Bansha goal. Half Time 0-0.

The boy's came out in the second half determined to find the goal that eluded them in the first half and in the 60th minute when pressing hard their reward came when the ball was blocked on the line by a Bansha hand and Villa were awarded a penalty. Pippy Carroll stepped up to slot it In the bottom corner. In the 65th minute Villa went 2-0 up when a great cross from Sean Butler was met by the head of Alan Ryan who made no mistake. Villa secured the 3 points when a great run by James O Sullivan to the end line picked out Kieran Hennesy in the middle and he scored. Full Time 3-0.

It’s hard to pick a best on the day, it what was a brilliant squad performance. With so many regular players missing today manager James O’Sullivan was delighted with the result, showing the strength and depth of his squad. A good performance from the boy's going into next week's Round of 32 game away to Donegal side Greencastle in the FAI Junior Cup.

TSDL Division 1 League

Rosegreen Rangers 0-1 Peake Villa Junior B
Scorer: Matthew Fogarty (55 Mins)

Villa travelled to Dualla to play Rosegreen after a few weeks off for the Christmas break, looking to pick up another three league points. Despite missing a few regulars through various reasons Villa started brightly on a very poor pitch and dominated early exchanges with early efforts from Dale Loughnane and Adam Garrett failing to hit the target. Darragh Byrne was causing all sorts of problems for the hosts defence but the final ball into the box was defended well by Rosegreen or failed to find target from the Villa attackers. After 30 minutes a through ball from Eoin Dwyer put Adam Garrett through one on one with the hosts keeper but Adam failed to round the keeper and another chance passed. In defence Kevin Croke and Matthew Fogarty were solid in the middle and dealt well with mainly long balls forward from the hosts. Youth Jack Ryan Casey and Stevie Fewer were dominating the middle of the park and despite a couple of half chances the first half ended 0-0.

The second half began in the same vain with Villa on the front foot and a couple of more chances fell to Dale Loughnane and Adam Garrett but again failed to find the breakthrough. Then on 55 minutes after a great ball from Jack Ryan Casey to Mark Lennon, who then beat his man on the endline and put a super ball across the six yard box for Matthew Fogarty to tap home, a well deserved goal.
Soon after a mix up in the Villa defence allowed the Rosegreen striker in on goal but a brave save from Villa keeper Shane McGuire kept the hosts out, taking a knock to the head for his troubles. Eoin Dwyer and Darragh Byrne were linking up well with Dale Loughnane but the hosts were keeping Villa out through some good goal keeping and poor finishing from Villa. The hosts were loading long balls into the Villa box in last few minutes looking for equalizer but Cormac Lanigan, Kevin Croke and in particular Matthew Fogarty were immense in defense, seeing the game out for 3rd clean sheet in a row.

It was a well deserved three points and Villa could have had more goals but the 1 goal on day was enough. Best on the day for Villa were Kevin Croke, Stevie Fewer, Jack Ryan Casey and Darragh Byrne, but man of match on the day was Matthew Fogarty.
