Villa travelled to Donegal at the weekend, an 834km round trip but it was worth every kilometre when you come away with the result. Both teams played great football throughout. It was Greencastle who had the first shot in anger but it went wide of the post. Villa had to wait until the 18th minute for their first real chance when a Mikey Wade corner found the head of Aidan McCormack who's header went just wide. A minute later Mikey Wade found himself one on one with the keeper but Greencastle keeper Dylan Doherty saved well down to his right. Frank McKevitt went close in the 22nd minute with his shot just going over the bar. Villa were on top but went behind in the 29th minute when a quick corner found Matty Henry outside the box and he finished excellently to the bottom corner with a shot that Villa Goal keeper Willie Tierney could do nothing about. Villa had to wait until the 42nd minute for their next real chance when Captain Pippy Carroll put Tommy Teer through but his effort was always rising over the bar. Villa drew level just on half time in the 48th minute when a great one two between Tommy Teer and Mikey Wade with Mikey hitting an unstoppable shot to find the top corner. Half Time 1-1.
The second half was a real cagey affair with both defences well on top. The Villa defence was well marshalled by Greg Cully, Sean Wade and Alan Leahy with Aidan McCormack having a great game in the Villa midfield. In the 61st minute Willie Tierney made a great save down to his right. Sean Butler had a great chance in the 65th minute but his shot clipped the bottom of the post and wide. Tommy Teer who had a fine game had to come off in the 70th minute with a nasty head injury but thankfully physio Leanne Fogarty was on hand to deal with it. Captain Pippy Carroll really grew into the game in the final third playing a pivotal role keeping all the boys going and he was unlucky not to score from a great free kick in the 90th minute when his shot was well saved heading for the bottom corner. Full Time 1-1
Extra time was a tight affair with Villa using the bench wisely having brought on James O Sullivan, Alan Ryan, Darren McGuire, Keith Cahill and Kieren Hennesy in the second half and in Extra time the fresh legs were shown and they were telling with Villa on top. Pippy Carroll had another good chance in the 101st minute but his shot hit the side netting. The game finished 1-1 after extra time.
No team deserved to loose this match on penalties but that's Cup football. All four of Villa's penalties were well executed. Penalty scorers were, Pippy Carroll, Mikey Wade, Kieren Hennesy and Darren McGuire with the all important winner. Willie Tierney played a massive part in the shootout making two excellent saves. Manager James O Sullivan and assistant Jody Brolin were delighted with the performance of the whole squad. The club would like to thank all supporters who made the long trip up to Donegal and for Greencastle for their hospitality throughout the game.

TSDL Youth Division 1 League Peake Villa Youths 3-2 Clonmel Town
Scorers: Kieran Costello (1) Jack Kelly (1) Kevin Patan (1)
Villa entertained Clonmel Town in their last league game of the season hoping to move back to second spot. The visitors started the better, putting the ball around and took the lead after 25 minutes when Villa failed to clear their lines and a Town player coolly found the bottom corner from 15 yards out. This woke Villa up and they started to find a rhythm. After 35 minutes Villa levelled the game when great work in the box from Kevin Patan had Town's defence in dissaray but somehow a Town player cleared the ball off the line, the clearance broke to Kieran Costelloe, who smashed the ball home off the underside of the bar. Villa were on top now and took the lead before half time when a corner was cleared as far as Jack Kelly 12 yards out who produced an exquisite left foot volley to lob the keeper. Half time Villa 2 Town 1.
The visitors started the second half the stronger forcing two super saves from Stephen Donovan the Villa keeeper. Then with 70 minutes on the clock Town drew level when their striker found space at the back and made no mistake 2 2. Villa who had not got going in 2nd half, to their credit created and took a lovely move down the right started through Paddy Stakelum who found Liam McCormack who played a lovely through ball which found Kevin Patan, who still had a lot to do but his power and pace let him shrug off the last man and clinically finish to make it 3-2. Villa saw out the game comfortably. This was a great end to a stop start league season for the lads, who still have a Tipperary Cup semi-final to look forward to.
