U13 National cup.
Peake Villa 4 St.Kevin's 2. (aet)
Villa took on a strong Kevin's team in a local derby to see who would make the last 32 of the national cup in terrible weather conditions.
Villa got off to a great start against the wind and had the ball in the back of the net after ten minutes but it was ruled offside. Five minutess later villa took the lead through a corner by Liam McCormack which the keeper could only parry and the defender could not clear off the line. 1-0 Villa. Kevin's came back strong and with twenty minutes gone they equalized. Kevin's still with the wind took the lead with a stroke of luck as villa went to play out from the back when the ball hit the referee and went towards there own goal where Kevin's finished to make it 2-1 to Kevin's at half time.
Villa came out the second half on top and pressed kevins high up the field. Half way through the second half after a good move down the right hand side ball was crossed and half clear to Liam McCormack to volley home from Twenty yards. In the last minute villa nearly caught Kevin's on the break as mikey Ryan rounded the keeper but defender did brilliantly to save a goal. Full time score 2-2.
Extra time kicked off and for the first half was an end to end half with keeper Mark McCarthy making some good saves.
Villa started the better in the second half of extra time and Liam McCormack broke down the right hand side and crossed to Darragh Stakelum who brilliantly finished under the on rushing keeper. Two minutes later villa again broke down the right hand side and Liam McCormack had a shot from 35 yards out and flew into the top of the net to send Villa into the last 32 in Ireland. The game ended 4-2 to villa.
Well done to all players and coaches in an amazing win against a strong Kevin's team.
