30 Nov - 01 Dec Weekend Review
Home > News > 30 Nov - 01 Dec Weekend Review

A quiet weekend for our competitive teams at the weekend with just four teams in action with three of them winning and the other a draw, we had 10 non- competitive teams out and they all got on very well.
Peake Villa launched their Christmas Calendar at the weekend and they are available to buy from some outlets around Thurles and from coaches and committee members. The Calendar includes photos of all the current Teams and of past players and future stars.

Saturday 30th November

U11A Boys were at home to Clonmel Celtic, this was a great game between two evenly matched teams. The standard of soccer on display was a credit to both sets of coaches. Peake Villa were the winners of this very close and exciting game.

U11B Boys away to Bansha Celtic, this game was played on grass and as this was the first game Peake Villa B's played on grass they found the grass difficult to play on compared to Astro Turf. Both sides had their chances with Bansha winning this one.

U13 Boys League at home Peake Villa 2 - 2 Burncourt Celtic

Our 13’s entertained Burncourt Celtic and were well worth the win but could not break down a stern Burncourt defence. Villa went ahead after 10 minutes when the ball was crossed from the wing and knocked into the goal by a Burncourt defender to score an own goal. The visitors equalized three minutes later when the Villa Defence did not clear their lines and gifted Burncourt a goal. Villa regained the lead when Eoin Purcell lobbed the Keeper who got his fingers to it but could not keep it out. The visitors equalized just before half time when another mistake in defence made it 2-2 at half time.

Villa had all the play in the 2nd half but could not score hitting the cross bar and finding the Burncourt Goalie in fine form. Burncourt only got into Villa’s half 3 times in the second half such was the pressure Villa put on their opponents but it wasn’t to be and they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

U15 Boys League at home Peake Villa 3 - 2 Clonmel Town B

Our 15’s were at home to Town B and had a good win in a highly entertaining game. Villa opened the scoring through Conor Loughnane. Clonmel hit back just before the break to make it 1-1. Clonmel took the lead with a good free kick before Mikey O Connell scored with 15 minutes to go. Villa sealed the win with 5 minutes to go when when Ronan Mc Guire scored an excellent header from an Eoin Ryan free kick.

FAI Youth Cup 2nd Round Youths away to St. Michaels 1 - 3 Peake Villa

Villa Youths moved into the next round of the FAI Cup with a good win over St Micheals in Tipp Town on saturday. Villa went 1-0 up in the first minute of the game when Dale Loughnane made a strong run down the right wing before crossing in to Mattie Stakelum who finished well. Villa went 2-0 up in the 30th minute when a Matty Stakelum free kick hit the post and Maris Baltins was the sharpest to the rebound and finished well. St michaels got one back in the 40th minute making it 2-1 at half time. Villa created a lot of chances in the second half with Dale Loughnane and Gary Dunne coming very close. With 10 minutes to go it was Maris Baltins with a great finish into the far bottom corner putting the game to bed. Peake Villa will now play Nenagh Town with the winners booking a place in the last 16 of the FAI Youths Cup.

Sunday 1st December

Academy
Our Academy had 6 teams taking part in two Blitzes with 3 teams at home against Gortnahue and 3 teams away to Clonmel Town. They all done the Club proud and are a credit to Damien and all the Coaches that train them.

U10 Girls League at home to Cashel Town

We had two U10 girls team's in action with 1 drawing and the other narrowly losing. Well done Girl's.

U14 Girls League away to Tipperary Town 0 - 2 Peake Villa

Peake Villa were short a number of players though injury and a school trip to UL, so we had only eight of the regular squad available. The two O'Meara girls were called up from u12 to help fulfill the fixture and Zoe O'Meara turned in a Man of Match performance in her right back defensive position. This was always going to be a tight game and the difference between the two was Villa's ability to hit the target when the chances came their way. The first was in the middle of the 1st half when Lauren McCormack scored with a rasper from outside the box into the top right hand corner of the net. The second came after great work by Saoirse O'Meara on the right wing and her cross was met inside the box by an onrushing Lauren for her second goal of the game.

The Tipperary defence was very busy during the match and when they did get the ball into Villa's box their finishing let them down. A number of good chances were hit wide when a goal would have rewarded the Tipperary team for their efforts. Villa continued to put on the pressure and were rewarded with a free kick just outside the box which was well taken by Lauren and equally well saved by the Tipperary centre back with a great defensive header. Final Score Tipperary Town 0 - 2 Peake Villa.
